What We Are Building Towards

Mar 22, 2233

Sharing our vision, ambition, and values.

Bluesky has written much about their thought process, being open and clear in our expectations helps everyone come to understanding. The ATProto ecosystem, "Atmosphere" as it is also known, values transparency highly as an ethos. This post is our hello world to the Atmosphere, to set the tone and context for what we are doing.

Vision

  • on one hand Discord + Reddit + Groups, easy to picture, its about execution, why that combination

    • collection of multiple channels where communities already organize wrapped into one
    • some talk about features, AIM days of public chat rooms, but with choice fluidity
  • technically intriguing, interesting problems and possibilities around ATProto and a share social/data graph generally

  • a platform for communities, governance, also small social groups (lay out several personas)

  • enabling choice fluidity, adding resiliency to the network, credible exit

  • how moderation should work, preferences too

  • browser / explorer / search

We intend to make money, we don't know how yet

We want to be a good denizen

IBM story time, layout 4 points

Want to take back control from the billionaires, wealth gap growth

Ambitions or questions for ATProto generally

  • Topical Source, how can ATProto become a foundation for combating misinformation, wikipedia like, attestations
  • Can we reshape how we treat each other online, can we be more like we would in real life?
  • Can we get people to be together in real life more by how we reshape social media
  • Can we disrupt other established powers, class warfare, not culture wars?
  • Liquid democracy, public voting and delegation record
  • Join the movement!

The concept of liquid democracy describes a form of collective decision-making, which combines elements of direct democracy and representative democracy through the use of software. This allows voters to either vote on issues directly, or to delegate their voting power to a trusted person or party.

why we chose ATProto
